Sue Veeneman, Executive Director of the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Foundation, welcomed members and guests to the Fourth Annual Perennial Society event on June 9, 2010, noting that the Donor Appreciation event is held annually to honor Perennial Society Members. She then turned the meeting over to Ray Loeschner, President of the Foundation, who welcomed guests just returning from a Perennial Society tram tour of the Chihuly exhibit, guided by Joseph Becherer, Director of Exhibitions & Curator of Sculpture.
Ray introduced David Hooker, President and CEO of the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, who presented an update on the Gardens’ activities and future plans, while guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Ray followed with an update on the endowment then invited Fred Meijer to say a few words. Fred shared his amazement at how much the Gardens & Sculpture Park have grown in size and popularity in such a relatively short period of time. He expressed sincere gratitude to the Perennial Society members for their generous contributions to the endowment that will help secure the future of the Gardens.
In closing, Ray invited guests to enjoy gifts of the beautiful, potted perennials from the centerpieces as a memento of the evening. The perennials were generously donated by Sawyer Nursery in Hudsonville.
